What We Believe
Doctrinal Statement pf PathWay College Ministries
A. Concerning the Scriptures
We believe that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are divinely inspired, verbally and completely inerrant in the original writings and of supreme and final authority in all matters of faith and life. We believe God, who is Truth, communicated through Spirit-controlled men so that the Scriptures are without error and therefore authoritative in all they teach and in all matters they touch. Matthew 5:18; 15:4-6; Romans 3:1-4; II Peter 1:19-21; Mark 12:36; Galatians 3:16; Revelation 22:18, 19; John 10:34, 35; II Timothy 3:16; Acts 1:16; Hebrews 4:12
B. Concerning the True God
We believe in one sovereign God, existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, perfect in holiness, infinite in wisdom, unbounded in power and measureless in love; that God is the source of all creation and that through the immediate exercise of His power all things came into being. Genesis 1:1; Isaiah 45:14; 46:9; I Corinthians 8:6; Exodus 20:2, 3; Matthew 3:16, 17; Ephesians 1:3-10; Deuteronomy 4:35; 28:19, 20; 4:3-6; 6:4; 32:39; John 1:1-3; 5:36-40;
Psalm 2:7-9; Romans 1:1-6
C. Concerning the Lord Jesus Christ
We believe that Jesus the Messiah was eternally pre-existent and is co-equal with God the Father; that He took on Himself the nature of man through the virgin birth so that He possesses both divine and human natures. We believe in His sinless life and perfect obedience to the Law; in His atoning death, burial, bodily resurrection, ascension into heaven, high-priestly intercession and His personal return in power and glory. He is coming again to rapture His saints, and to set up the throne of David and establish His kingdom. The rapture is imminent and will be personal, pre-tribulational and pre-millennial. Isaiah 7:14; Acts 15:16; I Peter 2:22; 3:18; Matthew 1:18-25; 28:6; I Thessalonians 4:16; John 1:1; 14:3; II Thessalonians 2:6-8
D. Concerning the Holy Spirit
We believe that the Holy Spirit is co-equal and co-eternal with the Father and the Son; that He was active in the creation of all things and continues to be so in providence; that He convicts the world of sin, righteousness and judgment, and that He regenerates, sanctifies, baptizes, indwells, seals, illumines, guides and bestows His gifts upon all believers according to His will.
John 7:39; 14:16-17, 26; Acts 1:5; 13:8-12; I Corinthians 12:8-13; Hebrews 9:14; Revelation 22:18-19; Romans 12:3-8; Ephesians 1:13-14; 4:7-13; 4:30; I Corinthians 14:26-40
E. Concerning Man
We believe that God created man in His image; that because of the disobedience of our first parents at the Garden of Eden they lost their innocence and both they and their descendants, separated from God, suffer physical and spiritual death and that all human beings, are sinners by nature and practice. Genesis 1:27; Romans 3:23; 5:12-19; Isaiah 53:6
F. Concerning Salvation
We believe that Jesus the Messiah died for our sins, according to the Scriptures, as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice; that all who believe in Him are justified, not by any works of righteousness they have done, but by His perfect righteousness and atoning blood and that there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved. Salvation is eternally secure. John 3:3-6, 16; 10:28, 29; Acts 13:39; Romans 2:4; II Corinthians 7:9; 10 Hebrews 4:2; Ephesians 2:8-10; I Timothy 2:5, 6; I Peter 1:18-23; II Peter 1:4
G. Concerning the Eternal State
We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust, the everlasting blessedness of the saved and the everlasting conscious punishment of the lost. Psalm 16:11; Matthew 25:46; John 5:28, 29; 14:2; Revelation 20:14, 15; 21:4
H. Concerning Satan
We believe the Scriptures teach that there is a personal devil who is “the god of this age” and “the prince of the power of the air,” who is full of all subtlety, who seeks continually to frustrate the purposes of God and to ensnare the sons of men, and who was conquered by Christ on the cross and condemned to everlasting punishment. II Corinthians 4:4; Ephesians 2:2; Hebrews 2:14; Revelation 12:9-11, 13-15
I. Concerning Personal Separation
We believe the Scriptures teach that every believer should be separated unto God from the world, and by the aid of the Holy Spirit, should walk in Christian love and holiness, exhibiting qualities of honesty, integrity, forgiveness and lovingkindness. We believe the Scriptures admonish every believer not to love the world or the things of the world, but rather to flee evil desires, avoid every kind of evil and refrain from questionable practices which destroy one’s testimony, offend one’s brother and fail to glorify God. Proverbs 15:33; Romans 14:19-21; I Corinthians 6:18-20; 8:9-13; 10:23, 33; II Corinthians 5:15-20; 7:1; Galatians 5:22-25; Ephesians 4:32; 5:1-2; Philippians 4:8; I Thessalonians 4:7; I Peter 5:5-6; I John 2:15-17
